Cool Stuff I Saw: September 2020
Not as many links this month. That's okay though. This month I became engrossed with Lay Zhang and Exo, so that's what's up with me. Also I'm going to stop cross-posting updates to Tumblr. No particular reason, just don't feel like doing it anymore.
Current events
- I'm one of the people in the world who are kind of getting tired of the China vs. Hong Kong narrative. Like, as a person who lives in the West, I totally see where the HK folks are coming from, but I also do think that they're glorifying revolution a bit too much, and ignoring that there is more than one way to do things. WHile this post is firmly pro-China (and there are some things about the China camp that I don't agree with), it has some points that I do think have not been brought to light. (Link)
- Which reminds me, there was a video I watched made by two guys who've lived in both HK and the West. The title is a bit sensationalized and I don't think the video gets very in-depth, but I think they're approaching the issue more from the idea of how the HK camp formulates their arguments. (Link)
Life
- For a few years now I've thought that being a film producer would be pretty cool. But film producer as a role is pretty vague, so I was reading more about the specifics. (Link)
- I had to change my password for my work computer while on remote desktop. Learned about CTRL+ALT+END. (Link)
- Read about the names of the different underwear cuts for women. (Link)
- I recently got interested in lingerie. Just like, really simple stuff. I'm just reading about it for now. (Link)
Chinese culture
- A discussion on pet names for lovers in Chinese. (Link)
- A site I found that translates Chinese names into Korean. (Link)
Korean culture
- Naver seems to be a popular Korean-Chinese dictionary site. (Link)
Chinese entertainment
- Lay learning Cantonese from MC Jin on Idol Producer Season 2 :3 (Link)
- A thread on Mulna 2020's shortcomings. (Link)
- An interview with Lay about his new album. (Link)
- Lay accidentally called Jackson Wang "baobei" on Street dance of China XD (Link)
- Lay accidentally swearing on camera XD (Link)
- I was watching this reaction video to Lay's Honey, and one of the viewers mentioned the "Smeeze," which is apparently a style of fancy footwork. (Link)
Korean entertainment
- I really shouldn't be engaged in this sort of gossip, but I'm not sure? Like, there have been rumblings that Sehun from Exo likes men because of stuff he and his members have said. One part of the discussion is "we shouldn't read too much into stuff he said." The other part of the discussion is "why should we assume straight until proven gay." And then there's the part that is "what's wrong with being gay." It's just kind of messy. Personally, I just try not to really think about his sexuality and just try to pay more attention to his talents/personality. (Link)
- I myself have monolids so I was reading about Kpop idols who also have monolids. (Link)
