Cool Stuff I Saw: March 2021

Current Events
- I'll be completely honest, the treatment of Uyghurs in Xinjiang is one of those things that I am completely confused about. Around 1-2 years ago, I was so sure that Western resources were accurate in their depiction of the mistreatment, but as time has passed, I have found myself doubting those articles. Granted, I have not done my own research so I have nothing to back my feelings up. Once in a while, I will see posts like this, but I also do not have enough knowledge or know-how to break these threads down and analyze them on my own either. Obviously I don't want there to be any mistreatment of people going on so I am not sure if I am too quick to want to believe these sorts of debunking threads. But I am just so confused and don't know who to trust. (Link 1) (Link 2)
- A Twitter thread showing how American media have contributed to Sinophobia with numerous newspaper and magazine headlines that demonize China. (Link)
Literature
- I was reading a regency AU fic and the author brought the idea of courtly love. Their short summary was that courtly love was a kind of idealistic love, and that the purest form of this love was free from any physical aspect. The impression I'm getting from the Wikipedia page is a little bit different from the author's description so I'm still wrapping my head around it, but it is fascinating to read about and imagine. Fashion
- I was trying to figure out whether I was a Classic or a Gamine body type. I'm leaning towards Classic, but I wish I had a buddy to give me a second opinion lol. (Link)
Internet
- A funny comic I found about how an artist wishes their attitude towards their art is like vs. how it actually is. They want to be very nonchalant about drawing racy things (in this example it's Sonic porn), but in reality they are very embarrassed about their very neutral art (pictures of chairs XD). (Link)
Gaming
- There is an English version of Touken Ranbu coming out. To be honest, the fact that the game was only in Japanese was perhaps the one main reason that had kept me playing the game all those years ago. I did some looking into the game, and while I love the concept of sword boys and the RPG aspects of it, I have a feeling that the actual gameplay may not be as engaging as I had hoped. In addition, I wonder if there are any time-based events and rewards (daily rewards, etc.). If that is the case, then I likely will not play the game as I don't like playing games like they're assignments. (Link)
- Dappervolk is like Neopets but with a more fantastical twist. Anyway, the art is really cute, but apparently the actual game itself is very tedious and not fun to play :( (Link)
Chinese History
- I was reading Su Tong's My Life as Emperor and the only thing that the main character kept from childhood until adulthood was his copy of the Analects. (Link)
Chinese Entertainment
- I saw pictures of Exo's Chinaline pre-debut. I agree that it would've been nice if Lu Han hadn't shaved his jaw. He would've had such a unique look. Kris also already looked quite handsome in his youth. Yeah, he looked like an awkward 18 year old (but we all do at 18 years old), but his facial features were already quite nice. Zitao and Yixing still had some of their baby fat on them in these pictures uwu (Link)
- Here's an old rumour post for when the members of Exo weren't revealed yet. Apparently Kris was known as Jeans/Denim boy, and this post was dicsussing some rumours about him. Anyway, he looked cute here, even as a young'un lol. (Link)
