Cool Stuff I Saw: April 2021
It's that time again! Cool stuff time lol. These posts are nice because they help me clear out my bookmarks while still documenting fun stuff that I saw.
Current events
- This month, sanctions were raised by Western countries against China for alleged mistreatment of Uyghur peoples in Xinjiang. As I read more, I'm getting a better sense of what my stance on the issue is. Here are some things I found debunking the allegations (Link) For the record, my stance on the issue is that while the CCP has done bad things, that doesn't mean that every piece of bad news about China is true.
Religion
- I learned about apsaras, who are female spirits in Hindu and Buddhist culture. (Link)
Western history
- I learned about heloise and Abelard after watching Being John Malkovich lol. (Heloise) (Abelard)
Languages
- Apparently "mingming" is generic name for cats in Tagalog. (Link)
- Apparently there was drama in the Danmei fandom (but that's hardly surprising). Someone had been translating 2ha very unprofessionally and their attitude towards translating as a whole was unprofessional and disrespectful. (Link) (Discussion about Chinese) (Memes about Chinese)
Korean culture
- I was reading a fic and it mentioned CU, which is a popular convenient store in South Korea. (Link)
- I believe it was the same fic that also introduced me to Gosiwon. They are very small apartment units. I looked up pictures of what they were like and they were nicer than I'd expected. When I think of hyper small apartments, I think of the "coffin apartments" in Hong Kong, but these definitely seem more maintained. (Link)

- Fail Fandom Anon is supposed to be a Dreamwidth community for fandom drama, but I haven't quite gotten the hang of how it operates. (Link)

- I've been reading a lot of Xiuhan on AO3 lately and I guess one of the authors noticed XD (Link)

- I was obsessed with Yixing's photoshoot for the Grand Line concert where he was wearing a wide brimmed hat with a veil. Anyway, I found a behind the scenes video of it and I am losing my mind, thank you very much. (Link)
- I stumbled upon this piece about Hu Ge and his thoughts on his acting career. I think was zoning in on one thing he said during a GQ interview. This is a gossip site and not a celebrity news website so it literally just said one sentence about the interview and that was it. (Link)
- Yixing driving a tractor in Back to Field. At first I thought that he was only guesting but later found out he is actually one of the main hosts of the season, so now I have to watch all of season 5 T_T (Rip my time because Cvariety shows are long as heck lol). (Link)
