Cool Stuff I Saw - February 29, 2020
Hey y'all. Here's February 2019's cool stuff I saw post. I've been thinking of whether to up the frequency of these posts to semi-monthly. On one hand, it'll be less work, but the posts might be shorter and less substantial.
If we're being honest, I think the reason why I'm bothered this month is because I am coincidentally trying to finish binging the Rise of Phoenixes (I have 3 episodes left) and to get a review out before Monday. The thing is, my review will be SUPER LONG because of how long the show is and how many characters are in it.
Funnies and other random stuff
- It's tax season and this year I've finally built up the courage to do my own taxes. But it is also a little embarrasing that I was afraid to do my own taxes despite being an accountant myself. This series of comments on Reddit expresses my thoughts lol. For some reason, doing my own taxes is far more terrifying than doing someone else's taxes. (Link)
- I've been trying to read up on the differences between moose, elk, caribou, and reindeer. I'm still confused though :( (Link)
Animanga
- Some Bleach fanart I stumbled upon while checking out some Grimmichi fanfiction. (Link)
- Some more fanart, this time of the Ichiruki nature. Somehow Ichigo looks good in everything, and I am particularly drawn to his earring because I've never seen him being drawn with that sort of jewellery. Truly a fashion king. (Link)
Video games
- I found scans of the Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia artbook. I thought the art in this game was so elegant. I don't hate the art of Awakening or Fates at all, but this was a breath of fresh air. (Link)
- I found an online version of the character creater of Etrian Odyssey V. (Link)
- So apparently there is a super cute eevee model kit. I wish this existed for other Pokemon too! (Link)
Chinese entertainment
- Zhu Yilong being pretty, which makes me angry. (Link)
- A Twitter thread on Zhu Yilong's ponytail look, which I am a big fan of. (Link)
- Bai Jingting is very lean and has a very small frame in general, so it's always a surprise seeing that he is, in fact, swole. (Link)
- A promo I saw for the next season of Youth Travel Notes. (Link) I also wrote a post about how I will probably begrudgingly watch this season because of Bai Jingting. (Link)
- Wei Daxun and Hu Yitian showing off their bromance right in front of Xiong Ziqi. (Link)
- Some Guardian fanart of Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan. (Link)
- Some more Guardian fanart, of Zhao Yunlan/Kunlun. (Link)
- I found out that one of the supporting actors in Kung Fu Hustle is actually a Shaolin Monk which is cool as heck. His name is Xing Yu. (Link)
Chinese stuff
- I was looking up a Chinese idiom for one of my Twenty-Four Hours screencaps posts. This idiom is something along the lines of "what medicine is sold in your gourd." It's supposed to signify when you don't understand something. (Link)
- I've been reading an English fan translation of the Legend of the Condor Heroes lately. (It's surprisingly high quality in terms of the translation being a smooth read.) At one point in the story, a poem by Yue Fei was referenced. (Yue Fei is a Chinese historical hero.) So I did a bit of digging myself. (Link)
- At one point in the Legend of Condor Heroes, the translator instructed people who were interested in Huang Yaoshi's maze on Peach Blossom Island to go to the Feng Shui Institute website. I am a little bit interested in Chinese astrology and fortune telling so I took a quick gander. (Link)
