Review: Back to Field Season 6 (向往的生活 第六季) (2022)

Another chill relaxing show. This show was what the kids call healing 🥲 Definitely check this out if you want a fun cottagecore show!

Review: Creation of the Gods Training Camp (封神訓練營) (2023)

This is a show for the fans of the Creation of the Gods movie series. It wasn’t the best from a production standpoint but the star here is the actual clips of the training camp.

Review: The New Journey (新游記) (2022)

This wasn't a great variety show compared to some that I've really enjoyed in the past. After a few episodes I decided I was really only watching for the cast as opposed to the activities. I wouldn't recommend this if you're looking for a fun and funny variety show, but it might still be worth it if you like the cast.

Review: Twenty-Four Hours, Season 2 (二十四小時 第二季) (2017)

This season was alright. I had heard that season was not as good as prior season, but I think it was generally different. Overall, it was a fine new season to the series.

Review: Twenty-Four Hours, Season 1 (二十四小時 第一季) (2016)

I'd actually watched season 3 of Twenty-Four Hours first, so I'm kind of going backwards.

I think this season was fine, but since several of the main cast aren't typically variety staples like in season 3, it relied more on natural chemistry between the cast and also whether the games were fun.

I would definitely recommend this if you're a fan of any of the main cast, as there are definitely lots of fun moments of joking around, but I think this season was also decent for background watching.

Review: Ice Hockey Hero (大冰小將) (2019)

This show was okay, but its entertainment value was limited. I would only recommend this for people who like variety shows that feature children, as this show mostly put the focus on them.

Review: Street Dance of China Season 4 (這!就是街舞 第四季) (2021)

This show was pretty enjoyable for the most part. I do have some grievances, mostly in the last episode. But for the most part, it was very entertaining, as someone who had not watched the previous seasons. So I would recommend this show up to episode 11 XD

Spoilers.

Review: Back to Field Season 5 (向往的生活 第五季) (2021)

This show was very enjoyable. The point of this show was to entertain and to relax, and this show provided it. Admittedly I only watched this show because Zhang Yixing was a main host. As a Lay fan, I thought this show gave me enough cute Lay moments, but also endeared me to the other main hosts and guests.

I also did a few recap screencap posts for this show over on Tumblr. Here are the links. (Ep 8) (Ep 9) (Ep 10) (Ep 10.5) (Ep 11) (Ep 11.5) (Ep 12) (Ep 13) (Ep 14+15)

Review: Who’s the Murderer Season 5 (明星大偵探 第五季) (2019)

This season took an interesting step compared to the previous seasons. From last season, it seemed like this show was getting more and more ambitious, but this season reverted back to the more insulated, simple cases, which I thought was refreshing and nice.

Overall, I thought this show was a little easier to palate than last season just because there were fewer "epic" cases, but it's also a matter of preference (whether you prefer longer or shorter cases).

Review: Who’s the Murderer Season 4 (明星大偵探 第四季) (2018)

I enjoyed Season 4 of Who's the Murderer quite a bit. I would rank it above Season 2 and Season 3 in terms of entertainment value. In terms of whether Season 1 or Season 4 is better, the cases in Season 4 were more complex and interesting, but there was some magic to Season 1 (as the first season) that can't be replicated. Plus, Season 4 had really long episodes which made it a bit of a drag sometimes.

Review: National Treasure, Season 2 (國家寶藏, 第二季) (2018)

Season 2 of National Treasure was largely the same as last season. My opinion of last season was that while the premise of the show was cool, the show itself got dull, and my opinion is the same for this season.

Season 2 can be viewed on Youtube here)

Review: National Treasure, Season 1 (國家寶藏, 第一季) (2017)

This show was produced by China's CCTV, and this first season focused on promoting artifacts from each of the country's major museums.

I admit that this show was a bit dry and dragged out. The quality of episodes varied depending on the celebrity and expert guests, as well as how the show was scripted. While I did learn about some interesting artifacts, I did watch this show while doing other things because it was such a drawn out show.

I would recommend it if you are learning about history, and don't mind the propaganda elements of the show.

It can be viewed here.

Review: Who's the Keyman (我是大偵探) (2018)

If I had started watching Who's the Keyman (WTK) without having watched Who's the Murderer (WTM), I think that I might've enjoyed the show more. However, I felt WTK was lacking in several areas.

This might be an okay variety show to pass the time, but I didn't find myself invested in the mysteries at all. I also didn't find that the lineup of players was strong enough to keep me entertained, both when it came to humour and when it came to solving mysteries.

Spoilers.

Review: Who’s the Murderer Season 3 (明星大偵探 第三季) (2017)

I'm here with my thoughts on Season 3 of Who's the Murderer! On the whole, I thought this season was as good as Season 1, and better than Season 2. Spoilers.

Episode 9, here we go!

Daxun picked up Xiaobai on the way to their morning meeting. Can't do that without a little bit of product placement though.

Screencaps: Twenty-Four Hours, Season 3 (2018) - Episode 7

Episode 7's group. Ziqi is back. I also love the colour combinations for this episode. Xiaozhige's team is browns and reds, and Shawn's team is blues and grays.
