Cool Stuff I Saw - June 2020
We're half way through 2020 ^^;;
Current Events
- I read this article about an African-American teacher in China. (Link)
Crafts
- I'm trying to get into colouring but I have no idea how to choose colours. This site has a lot of colour palettes. Hopefully it'll help a little. (Link)
- I found this colour palette generator which seems more helpful. (Link)
- I'm still in the stages of simple block colouring, but eventually, I'm going to try shading with colour pencils. (Link)
- I also wasn't aware of grayscale colouring. (Link)
History
- I found a Quora thread where someone compared the technology of the Roman Empire vs. Han Dynasty China. (Link)
- Goujian is an old Chinese King. He keeps coming up in a lot of stuff I read. (Link)
Animanga
- I watched Cowboy Bebop recently. There was a lot of Chinese in this show (road signs and such). Plus, Faye seemed to be from Singapore. I found a piece that deduced that the characters were likely speaking Cantonese with one another (and that them speaking Japanese was just for the benefit of the Japanese-speaking audience). (Link)
- Here's a playlist of the music from Cowboy Bebop. There is som absolutely amazing music in this show. (Link)
Video Games
- I haven't gotten Fire Emblem: Three Houses yet but I found some websites that might be helpful when I do get the game. (Link 1) (Link 2) (Link 3)
- Apparently the characters wear casual outfits that sort of imply their canon classes. (Link)
- Serenesforest doesn't have a stats calculator for Fire Emblem: Fates. I did find one on another website here though. (Link)
Chinese stuff
- I was reading douban reviews on the Drug Hunter (a cdrama). One of the comments was that Yu Hewei was "好土." I had to look up what that meant. Apparently means he's too old timey and not hip with the times. (Link)
- I was reading about Taosim and found out that Taoism also had guidance on sexual practices. (Link)
- Someone on Twitter was reading Passions of the Cut Sleeve by Bret Hinsch. I'd head of this book but hadn't got around to reading it. The Twitter thread discussed how homosexuality was viewed in the context of Chinese culture and more importantly, not in the Western lens. (Link)
- This was a discussion on whether hanfu could be worn by non Han-Chinese people. While the tone was slightly aggressive, it did put things in perspective, and it made me unerstand why I felt a bit possessive over hanfu. (Link)
- I don't know where to put this so it's going here (the artist is Chinese). I saw some beautiful fanart on Twitter. I love how the bottom of the bridge and the reflection in the water looks like a crescent moon. (Link)
- I had to look up what a "Xianzhu" was. From what I've been able to find, Gongzhu is the general term for princess, Junzhu is a daughter of the Crown Prince, and Xianzhu is the daughter of any other prince. As we know, this changes from dynasty to dynasty though anyway. As far as I know, I can just interpet it as a title for a woman of high birth. (Link)
- The most recent episode of the Chinese variety show National Treasure that I watched, one of the artifacts related to the Epic of King Gesar, and the celebrity guests were all of Tibetan descent. (Link)
Chinese Entertainment
- I saw some fanvideos for Bai Yu/Zhu Yilong, Gao Hanyu/Ji Xiaobing, and Hu Yitian/Zhang Yunlong. They apparently tried to spoof a show that usually features straight couples lol. (Link 1) (Link 2)
- I saw some ads for this Chinese gaming platform. I think it makes mobile games. Anyway, I was tempted to click on the ad because the ad featured a mobile game with some intriguing dialogue. (Link)
- As I said, I've been watching Story of Minglan. I thought that Sheng Changbai and Gu Tingye had a cute friendship. Anyway, here's some fanart. (Link 1) (Link 2) (Link 3)
- Alright this is some good stuff. According to a few sources, Zhu Yilong will be starring in a drama in 2022 called 風起隴西 (Feng Qi Long Xi). It's going to be written by Ma Boyong, which is usually a good sign. There's still two years to go but this is exciting :) (Link)
- Some random pics of Zhu Yilong. The second one looks like an older pic. He still looks good, but I'm pretty sure it's more hindsight. As in, I've seen how good looking he can be, so now I see the charm in his older pictures. It makes me wonder how much better I could look if I knew how to do my hair and makeup. Oh well. (Link 1) (Link 2)
- It's rumoured that SCI Mystery Season 2 will be filming later in 2020. (Link)
- A picture of Zhao Liying and Zhu Yilong after the filming of the Story of Minglan :3 (Link)
- Zhu Yilong's ARMS. (Link)
Korean Entertainment
- I was doing some research on the actor who plays two people in the Kdrama the King: Eternal Monarch. His name is Woo DoHwan. (Link)
