Review: Back to Field Season 5 (向往的生活 第五季) (2021)
This show was very enjoyable. The point of this show was to entertain and to relax, and this show provided it. Admittedly I only watched this show because Zhang Yixing was a main host. As a Lay fan, I thought this show gave me enough cute Lay moments, but also endeared me to the other main hosts and guests.

Format
This show didn't really have any format. The point was that they were in the countryside and every day was just supposed to be a "whatever goes" kind of day.
The show itself would try to feature one set of guests per episode, but the guests' schedule varied. They didn't always arrive at the same time or leave at the same time. But it wasn't bad, just got a bit of getting used to.
Production
The production and editing were pretty good. This show doesn't try to act like it's super candid. We see many times during the show that they have a huge film crew. It must be kind of awkward for people on the show, chilling while the film crew is watching them like a hawk.
The editing is also great though. The episodes are very long, but I didn't feel bored, because even though the cast are supposed to just be dillydallying, having the million cameras means they can catch all of the fun moments.
There is also a lot of editing in terms of jokey text and cute cartoons. They really do enhance the comedy value of the show, and made me laugh.
Episodes
As I said, the show is supposed to be about mundane life, and the show delivered. The feel of each episode did depend on the guests though.
Admittedly, I found the episodes with Li Dan and Chen He a bit tiresome after a while because Li Dan complained about work a lot? Like, it got old real fast.
On the other end of the spectrum, the episodes with Na Ying and Liang Jing were very entertaining, because they were so willing to try new things, and they were so ready to have fun. Their late night karaoke and dance session was so fun haha.
Overall
This was a fun show and I really enjoyed it. My big but is that I probably wouldn't watch this show if Yixing wasn't a main host. While I did like the other main cast members, he was the main draw for me.
