Review: City Hunter (城市獵人) (1993)

Errr, a questionable movie. The only thing you should really watch this movie for is the action and maybe some nostalgia. Not even the more fun of Jackie Chan's movies.

Spoilers.

Story

Mang Bo was a detective hired to find the daughter of a rich Japanese man. He went on a cruise ship to find her, and his case was entangled with a ship terrorist plot.

This movie's comedy was a little uncomfortable at times, watching as a person in 2023 :S

I could have done without Mang Bo being a pervert and everyone just accepting that all guys are like that.

Production

The production was fine. Wong Jing is a decent director so this movie looked totally fine. As for the acting, all of the actors did their jobs.

Characters

Mang Bo/Saeba Ryo was our main detective though he didn't really do that much sleuthing. He just did a lot of fighting and stunts to take down the enemies. But as I mentioned, his main personality trait was that he was a pervert who loved women and that was pretty annoying to watch.

Wai-heung/Kaori was the younger sister of Mang Bo's former partner. Mang Bo had promised to take care of her and to not date her. Of course, Mang Bo being a male fantasy, Wai-heung grew up to be very pretty and to be totally in love with him. She tried to get with her cousin to make him jealous, and at the end, Mang Bo was kind of returning her feelings but it was going to be a constant struggle for her of trying to stop Mang Bo from flirting with other women.

Kam-chuen Ching-chee/Imamura Kiyoko was the Japanese man's daughter whom Mang Bo was assigned to look for. He found her at first, but she continued to run away, making her way onto the cruise ship. Of course, at the end, she fell in love with him, and her dad wanted to set them up, but Mang Bo declined.

Nga-chee/Saeko was a detective and action lady who helped take down the terrorist. She had a female sidekick.

Go-dat/Kao Ta was a star gambler who was...just there.

Overall

Not really much of substance in this movie. Even the fighting was a little limited at times.
