This movie was alright but in hindsight, a lot of these movies feel very Western-centric and don’t really explore deeper themes other than that war is horrible.

This movie was surprisingly watchable. I say this because during this time period of the 2010s, there were a number of Chinese historical movies that looked nice but were badly written which led to them being boring. I looked up this movie and found out that it was directed by Chen Kaige so maybe that explains why this one was slightly better. It wasn’t perfect, but it was still more engaging than I expected. Overall this was okay.

I get what this movie was going for but I don’t think the writing and direction of the story was as good as it could have been.

This movie was kind of a surrealist horror in the sense that even by the end, the audience had a sense of how the crimes were perpetuated, but not the details. I thought it was decent.

This was a feel-good movie, the typical sort of movie where a teacher inspires a class of rowdy kids. I’d heard about this movie long ago because the music was popular with my school’s choir. Simple feel-good story with nice music.

This was a rather slow movie and it took me a while to get the gist of it. It wasn’t my favourite because the plot played out a in a way that was too low key for me.

This was kind of a romantic comedy movie but I can’t figure out what to make of it. It was okay and I enjoyed some parts of it, but at the base of it, I also found the story a bit uncomfortable because of pieces here and there.

I had heard good things about this movie and I ended up enjoying it! Like many Chinese movies, this one does have a moral stance, particularly on bullying and justice. However, the relationship between the characters was able to draw my attention away from what might otherwise have been an overbearing message, and gave the story a more human touch. This was a good drama movie.

This was a pretty interesting movie. I enjoyed it. It had an interesting story, but also Alfred Hitchcock is the goat for a reason.

A simple but thrilling story. Worth a watch for those who like mystery thrillers.

I’ll be real, this movie was hyped up quite a bit for me and it didn’t end up delivering to the extent I’d hoped. It was still good, but it did not take the direction I thought it would. It didn’t give me the mystery thrills I was craving.

So…just the usual Jackie Chan hero fantasy movie. I appreciate the interesting action but the story is too cringe for me to watch without having one eye closed tbh.

This was a short and simple crime movie. A quick watch but interesting because this sort of movie is not common.

I’d been hearing about this documentary but to be honest it didn’t present any arguments to me that I hadn’t already heard of, even in the year 2020 when it was released. It’s fine for someone who is young and perhaps grew up with social media, but as a millennial who saw the growth of social media as well as the various conversations and discussions around it, it didn’t surprise me. The documentary perhaps presented more facts and interviews, but it didn’t really interest me or shock me. Which is ironic to say because one of the big arguments of the documentary was how social media was designed to grab our attention, and I’m rating this documentary as just ok because it didn’t grab my attention.

This movie was alright. It was more about vibes but I still found it enjoyable. The story was simple but not empty so the audience had space to think.

So this movie was definitely uncomfortable but I’m not sure if my discomfort was the kind that the movie was aiming for. Both characters are so erratic and uncomfortable to be around and I know part of it is their deteriorating mental state but I also feel like they’re just not good guys. Which is not a bad thing, it just made me empathize a lite less with them. Nonetheless, I understand why this movie appeals to people; it reflects a very unsettling state of mind, state of relationship, and that can be interesting.

On Wikipedia this movie as billed as a mystery thriller but it played as a tragedy. At the end I kept wishing the story would get better but it never did. I’m not one to shy away from sad endings especially when they make sense, but in the case of this movie, the tragedy was hard to watch. It was still an ok movie I guess. I would say the first half was a mystery/thriller and the latter half was just tragedy.

My mom mentioned she’d never seen this movie before but she enjoyed the Ten Commandments so we put this on for short Friday movie night. I watched this when I was younger and it was super epic. As an adult, it’s still very epic in style but the story is simple. Which is not bad, it was still a good movie. Also, I am not religious though I did go to Catholic school as a child. I view this movie as a movie.

This was an ok movie. It was a spin off from the Line Walker tv drama. Only a few characters overlapped so I think it could mostly be watched as an original movie. I didn’t watch the drama so I certainly watched it as original. But I think if I’d seen the drama, maybe I’d be more excited to see the returning characters, namely Charmaine Sheh’s character.
