I think the story of MGS2 left less of an impact on me than the first MGS, but MGS2 really went off with its analyses of the age of information, which was unexpected but not that bad. That being said, the story of MGS2 was still a bit convoluted, and I think it could've worked with a few parts taken out. So overall, good, but I think MGS1 was more interesting and cleaner (i.e. less distractions).

I watched CenterStrain01's walkthrough series here.

I'd watched a Let's Play for Metal Gear Solid V a while ago and I found myself thinking about the story from time to time. MGSV was the first game in the series that I'd watched, and I was obviously missing a lot of background information. Since I was thinking about the story and curious about the pre-established characters, I decided to take the plunge and go back and check out the old games.

I was informed that the first two Metal Gear games weren't really that important to the plot, so I'm going to check out the main Metal Gear Solid games. For Metal Gear Solid, I watched this series of videos.

As I'd mentioned in my MGSV review, stealth games aren't my thing, so I wasn't big on the gameplay and mostly just followed it in the background. I was watching more for the story. I have mixed feelings about the story, but I do think that it helped me get a better understanding of the MGS story.

I just finished watching a Let's Play for this game. Well, Part 1 of it anyway. I watched the Let's Play by theRadBrad here.

In general, it was fine. Like many teenagers, I grew up interested in this story, but I didn't have a gaming console, so all of my knowledge of this story was based on what I'd read. This was my first chance to actually get to the know the story, though new story aspects were added for this game. Basically, I wasn't sure if my nostalgia had a part in elevating my opinion of this game, but I don't doubt that most people playing this game probably had similar if not fonder memories of this game, so it shouldn't be a huge deal.

As a standalone video game, I'd say it was probably average. I didn't actually play the game so I can't comment on the gameplay itself. I thought the story and characters were fine, but again, it was riding a lot on the coattails of hype, and as we know, it is only the first part of many, so that is why there were so many things left unresolved.

I heard about this game from a Reddit thread on sad video games here. This was a sad video game but it was pretty linear and not very interactive. Spoilers.

As usual, I didn't actually play this video game. I watched two let's play videos, here and here (for the other ending).

I don't know that I would recommend this game for general audiences. I would recommend it for people who have an hour or two to spare, and are able to handle darker and graver themes.
