Dropped: Advance Bravely (盛勢) (2017)
I know I am being very picky with shows lately but I figured I might as well be picky with my time. Anyway the first episode of this was quite cheesy and I don’t think I can sit through another 29 episodes of this.
Story
In episode one, we were introduced to Xia Yao, a boxer who lived in a life of luxury because it seemed he was also the son of a rich family. People around him, particularly older family members, especially wanted him to get married and settle down but he of course had no interest. At the end of the episode, he bumped into a woman who was romantically interested in him but he had no interest in her. From what I read from the synopsis of the drama, her brother would be the other male lead.
I know the episodes are only twenty minutes long, but I still felt that nothing compelled me and so unfortunately I’m going to let this one go.
Production
Typical low budget cdrama production. I couldn’t take Gong Jun as a boxer/MMA fighter seriously. He didn’t really have the swagger. And his overall demeanour just wasn’t very convincing. He acted more like a teenager than an adult playboy. And it just didn’t feel like he was very interactive with the characters who were talking to him, his friend who came to his room, and the woman who was interested in him.
There was also the flashback that was very hard to watch because of the literal flashing. It seemed like it was hinting at the fact that it was targeted towards him to lure him into a trap but I’m not going to watch further to find out. And also because that scene was literally hard to watch.
Overall
This drama was what I expected unfortunately. Cheesy, but there was just nothing about the one main character we saw in this episode that made him seem cool or interesting. The writing for him also wasn’t very good because he wasn’t really talking to anyone. And nothing about the production value implied to me that this would get any better.
