Review: Frozen Planet (2011)
This was another short BBC documentary focusing on the coldest parts of the earth. I think it felt a little more repetitive than BBC's other documentaries and perhaps could have been shortened a bit. However, it didn't make the wildlife footage any less impressive.
Format
The documentary had a loose format, first focusing on the various seasons at the two poles. Then it ended with special episodes on human dwellings in these cold regions, and the effects of climate change on these regions. I think this format was generally fine.
Production
As always, I knew I could count on the best in production. Like other BBC documentaries, we also got behind the scenes footage which I always found very fascinating.
Episodes
I mentioned that this series seemed a bit repetitive. This was because I noticed that certain footage had been reused in different episodes, even though it did make sense in the narrative. And since this documentary only focused on the polar regions, there was less variety and diversity in wildlife here compared to other BBC documentaries that were more generally focused.
Overall
Still very enjoyable. I wouldn't prefer this over BBC's Life documentary, but it was still a good time.
