Oh another dreadful month. I realized I didn't make a post for last month but I truly didn't have anything saved up. I guess I was too busy last month.
This drama was pretty good! Despite being the sequel to the Legend of Zhen Huan, it doesn’t follow all of the exact same story beats, which I appreciate. Instead, this was a more romantic and personal take on the harem drama narrative which I appreciated. The production value was also pretty high. Overall I would recommend this especially if you enjoyed Legend of Zhen Huan or other harem cdramas.
This movie was surprisingly watchable. I say this because during this time period of the 2010s, there were a number of Chinese historical movies that looked nice but were badly written which led to them being boring. I looked up this movie and found out that it was directed by Chen Kaige so maybe that explains why this one was slightly better. It wasn’t perfect, but it was still more engaging than I expected. Overall this was okay.
This movie was kind of a surrealist horror in the sense that even by the end, the audience had a sense of how the crimes were perpetuated, but not the details. I thought it was decent.
This was a feel-good movie, the typical sort of movie where a teacher inspires a class of rowdy kids. I’d heard about this movie long ago because the music was popular with my school’s choir. Simple feel-good story with nice music.
This was a rather slow movie and it took me a while to get the gist of it. It wasn’t my favourite because the plot played out a in a way that was too low key for me.
This was kind of a romantic comedy movie but I can’t figure out what to make of it. It was okay and I enjoyed some parts of it, but at the base of it, I also found the story a bit uncomfortable because of pieces here and there.
I had heard good things about this movie and I ended up enjoying it! Like many Chinese movies, this one does have a moral stance, particularly on bullying and justice. However, the relationship between the characters was able to draw my attention away from what might otherwise have been an overbearing message, and gave the story a more human touch. This was a good drama movie.
To be honest I’m not sure why I watched this show to the end. To be honest I found it a bit repetitive and dragged out. But I suppose you’d enjoy it if you liked the cast members.
I’ll be real, this movie was hyped up quite a bit for me and it didn’t end up delivering to the extent I’d hoped. It was still good, but it did not take the direction I thought it would. It didn’t give me the mystery thrills I was craving.
So…just the usual Jackie Chan hero fantasy movie. I appreciate the interesting action but the story is too cringe for me to watch without having one eye closed tbh.
This was ok. It was an action thriller that wasn’t super deep in my opinion. It did have the benefit of a solid main cast which made it more watchable than it otherwise could have given the simple storyline. I felt that this movie was more interesting than the first Line Walker movie.
I really appreciated this book for leaning into its concept. It may not be for everyone, but I appreciated that Dunn really leaned into the full spirit of the freak show. I would recommend this book for people who want to read about dysfunctional who are terrible to one another.
