I can see why people found this documentary disturbing. I can also see why people say that this documentary didn’t give us the whole perspective and should have expanded more. But I think this movie did present a narrative of a story that combined a lot of complex and difficult themes. I would recommend this documentary, but of course understanding that some may feel disturbed by the content, and also noting that some may walk away feeling unsatisfied with the extent of the investigation.

I won’t lie, I teared up. I was expecting this to be somewhat of a fantastical feel-good story and I was pleased that it was more rooted in the themes and issues raised by the livestock industry as opposed to focusing too much on a hero’s journey. It was an enjoyable movie.

I watched this movie a long time ago but I might as well watch it again. This was a very typical 2000s martial arts movie. The martial arts is the main draw. The story was a very typical patriotic story.

This was a good movie, interesting and unique and intriguing and not what I’d expected. It didn’t hit exactly in the way that I hoped it would as a romance, but I can appreciate the thought and care that was put into this movie and its messages. I recommend it as a comedy-drama movie!

This was an alright crime drama. It wasn’t perfect, and there were some things that irked me. But the story was interesting enough and the production value was good. Do check this out if you want a short crime drama.

I listened to this book as read by what seems to be a generated voice on this Youtube playlist. It felt a very comprehensive introduction to the recent history of Palestine and the attitudes of the world towards Arab nations. Definitely give it a read/listen.

Another typical Jackie Chan movie. I have watched this movie before, but it was a long time ago. I enjoyed that this movie had more involved supporting characters that made the movie feel more engaging. The action was decent.

An average procedural crime drama. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with the Detective Galileo novels and that disappointed me greatly. These characters are all committing identity fraud. The writers should have just written them as original characters instead of using the names of the characters from the novels. The vibes and styles of the stories were also very different from the novels. Watch this as a procedural crime drama with very common tropes in comedy/crime dramas. I was going to watch season 2 to get it over with but now that I think about it, there’s no reason to put myself through it…

Pretty cool movie. This movie was part crime movie, part high school teen movie, starring Asian-American students. Unusual stars for this kind of story but it surprisingly made the movie quite enjoyable to me. Perhaps it was because the director and much of the cast and crew were Asian-American themselves, that made the entire setting somewhat believable and immersive to me.

This is the second crime movie from Diao Yinan that I’ve watched. I think I found this movie more interesting, a little tighter. An alright crime movie.

Spoilers. The version that I watched was the two hour international version.

As the sequel to Nirvana in Fire, I was disappointed with this drama. While there was scheming and court politics, it was straightforward and simple, and not the nuanced take that I expect from a well-written court political drama.

This was a character journey as opposed to a story that was focused on scheming. Despite that, I found the characters to be lacking. This drama relied on pre-existing tropes established in the original Nirvana in Fire, rather than the characters acting on their own to establish their personalities and relationships.

It’s an okay historical drama, but it’s lacking in comparison to Nirvana in Fire. I only found myself enjoying the drama in the last quarter of the show, in the final story arc.

Spoilers. Also, I wrote this super late so sorry that this is very disorganized!!

I finally got around to watching this movie after years of hearing about it. I can see why it resonated a lot with men of an older demographic lol. I would recommend this movie for people who like stories about loyalty and brotherhood, or if you want to see gun action.

This was a science fiction novel focused on civilizations. Actually, I found a lot of similarities in themes between this novel and that of the Remembrance of Earth’s Past Trilogy (i.e. The Three Body Problem Trilogy) but this novel took a more focused approach. I think this novel would be enjoyed by people who enjoy those themes of big questions regarding civilization.

I am a fan of these 80s-90s mid-budget (sometimes erotic) thrillers, so this movie had me captivated for much of it. It wasn’t anything overtly profound, but I still enjoyed Body Double as a decent thriller.

This was a movie focused on the life of Li Cunxin, a ballet dancer who defected from China. It was a little cheesy at times but I think as a narrative about a hero finding their calling in life, I think it was ok.

This was a documentary about the abuse that occurred on the sets of Nickelodeon kids’ shows. It’d blown up recently and that was how I heard about it. I thought it was a decent documentary that reminded us both of how vulnerable kids are when you put them in positions of employment, and also the importance of tone at the top and top executives in setting an example.
